Utility Workers Union of America, Local 102 began in 1942 when the Utility Workers Organizing Committee signed an agreement with West Penn Power Company in Springdale, Pennsylvania. As veterans came back to work following World War II, the union grew to encompass several shops and locations within the company and, subsequently gained power and leverage in collective bargaining negotiations.
